So the long awaited day comes when you finally upload your very first music video with a song as dear to you as a first born child. And then all that good feedback starts, ah, bring it on! Boy, it sure feels good to hear things you already know about yourself, yet every word comes in as fresh and delightful as a spring morning breeze! And then a few days later… BOOM! That first knife in the shape of a downward facing thumb stabbs you right in the heart! A dislike? What? Why? Who? (Anger likes to ask a lot of rhetorical questions, only to rush into a bunch of bulldozing conclusions about one’s self.) And then I remembered this:
“But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)
Yup, that’s Him, the master of goodness Himself, with another ridiculously preposterous quote of His. Right. So… I had to let it sink in for a while and then it hit me (even though I was the one with the tight fists ready for a fight) : Choosing to take advantage of the misfortunate event of what felt as a hideous personal rejection by actually blessing the disliker, turned out to be an extraordinary oppurtunity for growth! By doing that, I wasn’t following some meaningless religious commandment, but I was actually letting go of what was actually harmful for me (bitterness, perfectionism, pride & self pitty) and thus, was able to experience freedom!
So… feel free to dislike my videos all you want, ’cause that way we both might end up being blessed 😉
Haha seriously you shouldn’t be offended by dislikes… Dislikes can be either random kids who find it funny to dislike random videos or a Youtube algorithm that keeps a balance between the amount of likes and dislikes you have. Have you ever wondered why all Youtube videos have at least 1k dislikes? Well part of it is that Youtube algorithm. And yes you’ll receive your first dislike in the first 7 days after you’ve published your video. That’s obvious.
Also people who listen to music on Youtube shouldn’t be considered as “normal” listeners, because most of them can’t call what the difference between a music video and an other video is. You can tell if your music sales are going well or not by looking at your online streaming stats. (for example, your monthly listeners and followers that are the most important ones). And last but definitely not least, as we all know, the quality of your music has NOTHING to do with the amount of streams you get or with the amount of likes and subs on Youtube.
Dear Katerina, this is beyond precious to me!!! THANK YOU for your comment!! YES, you are 100% right!!! And at some point I realized that caring too much about the LIKES, is also problematic!!! We all need to do what we love and let go of all the unnecessary and worthless external validation expectations, which is merely a heavy burden! Not helpful at all for creativity, which is giving us the wings to FLY!!! Happy, Creative, New Year to you!! Blessings! Vive
